When I am feeling a bit down or need a pick-me-up, I can always count on a Joel Osteen book to give me some encouragement. I like that. At the same time, I like to read books about improving our physical health and well-being. I expected, 15 Ways to Live Longer and Healthier by Joel Osteen to be a mix of those two things. However, I didn't find that in this book.

15 Ways to Live Longer and Healthier: Life-Changing strategies for greater energy, a more focuses mind, and a calmer soul is more of a mind improvement book than anything. I do think it offers alot of encouragement and ideas to improve your thinking, if that is what you are looking for. There are chapters that include: Unclutter your mind, live in the present, dealing with difficult people and taming the tongue. These are all good things and I think they can be helpful if that is what you are expecting. However, I was expecting something different from the title of this book. I thought Osteen may have a book that was a holistic approach to health all the way around--not just in the mind/emotions/thought realm. I find this book to be encouraging and hopeful for those who need that. For those who want a mix of holistic health ideas, I think 15 Ways to Live Longer and Healthier falls short.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.

In 15 Ways to Live Longer and Healthier, Joel Osteen teaches readers the keys to having more energy and being more vitality, and productive. He begins the book by explain how studies are showing that if we are living in a negative state of mind, then we are more prone to becoming sick. We will actually suffer in our immune system. It is estimated that “90% of all visits to a primary care physician are stress-related.” Joel starts the book by sharing how critical it is to pay attention to our inner life. In his 20s, he was experiencing redness between his eyes and around the top of his face. It was very itchy and he tried all sorts of creams and lotions and nothing will fix the issue. He finally found a solution from one doctor who told him it was from stress related. He had to learn to live a more balance life and focus on his inner being. Some of the key ways he shared in the book was, “a healthy soul, choose to be happy, unclutter your mind, dealing with difficult people, nothing to prove, tame the tongue, and much more.

One of my favorite chapters was the one on unclutter your mind. Many of us are burden down by negative thoughts and we are living worried and we can’t understand why we are tired all of the time. He shared how scriptures instruct us to guard our minds and this is one of the ways in which we can be in more peace. He watched this documentary on hoarders and this one lady was struggling to get rid of stuff. You couldn’t walk anywhere in her house there was just piles of stuff everywhere. She would keep everything even popsicle wrappers and she kept them because they reminded of her children who were grown now. She was keeping unnecessary trash that she desperately needed to get rid of but couldn’t. Eventually the intervention worked and she was able to clean up her house and get of all the trash. Joel brilliantly compares this example to our minds and how many of us won’t let go of wrong thoughts and beliefs. It’s our choice to make as to whether we will live free. We are wasting precious time and draining all of our emotional energy when we concentration on and hold onto grudges from past hurts. Instead, we need to believe that God will give us beauty for our ashes and we don’t have to try and get vindication.

Another favorite chapter was about dealing with difficult people. He looked at the story of Nabal. He was a mean man who was wealthy and had lots of livestock. David was at the time with his army hiding from King Saul and they were watching over Nabal’s sheep. They asked him for food and he told them no and stated how he didn’t ask them to watch them. David was upset and was going to go take him out with his army. When they arrived, he met Abigail and she gave them food and told him that her husband is a fool and that he shouldn’t have insulted David. She told him that he would be King and not to worry about his husband. This wasn’t a battle he would need to be fighting. Eventually, Nabal got sick ten days later and died. David then married her to become one of his wives. Joel used this story to explain to readers that when we encounter Nabals spirits and people who are rude. We need to be like Abigail and ask ourselves, “why are we fighting with a fool.” He shared how we need to put on the oil of joy each day and to let their negative comments and attitudes slide right off our us. We need to become like an eagle and rise above the crows and chickens.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to live a healthier life with more energy. I greatly loved the message in this book and this book is one meant to be studied and reread to let the message get down into your soul. It covered everything from dealing with difficult people, living in the present, to letting go of control. These life strategies will greatly benefit readers and help them to live a more joyful life. I loved how he shared personal stories and examples from others to really explain the message. One of the stories was about how one lady lost her job and then her mom got sick and died. When she lost her job, this provided time for her to spend with her dying mom and soon she did get blessed with another job. This story is about embracing where we currently are and to enjoy the moment. Another story I liked was about his sister, Lisa’s story and how they were unable to have kids and how they had to become open to adoption and how God answered that prayer. This is probably one of the best books I have read from Joel. I just loved the concept of this one and the core message.

"I received this book free from the publisher, Hachette Book Group/Faithwords for my honest review.”

Unexpected Insight

Whenever I read a health book, I expect the author to include information about drinking more water, avoiding sugar and other common health habits. Bestselling author Joel Osteen doesn’t use any of these expected cautions. Instead, Osteen uses mindset and mental insights and stories for the reader.

In the introduction speaking of God, Osteen write, “He has given us everything we need to live healthy and whole, but we have to do our part and tap into the promises of God and those things that breathe new hope into our heart and new vision into our spirit. We can’t let wrong mind-sets, a negative past, and other people’s opinions discourage us from experiencing all the good things God has for us. I believe it’s your time to walk in the fullness of His blessing.” (Page ix)

I enjoyed 15 WAYS TO LIVE LONGER AND HEALTHIER and highly recommend this book.

Once again, Pastor Joel shows how God’s Word and positivity can affect and improve anything. I planned on reading this book a little at a time, but couldn’t stop reading. I found myself saying, I’ll just read one more chapter. One more.

15 Ways to Live Longer and Healthier provides great spiritual insight for whole, healthy living. Powerful teachings help you to gain better spirit, mind, and body health by releasing toxins from:
•Loss
•Worry
•Frustration
•Unforgiveness
•Disappointments

Pastor Joel’s message is simply wonderful. Honor God. Keep His promises. Take care of the body He has given us. Stop worrying and trust God. Be kind. Enjoy life the way the Lord intended.

For me, the “Win the War Within” chapter has a sermon ring to it. I enjoyed this awesome section. This is the first time I’ve ever read anything like that by Joel. Teaching was still presented in a subtle, non-condemning way, but was much stronger than in the past. Splashes of humor toward the end rekindled his familiar style. Telling of his “old Jacob man” encounters brought some laughs.

If you’ve read the majority of his books, you’ll find a mix of content from those. But, the review will be welcomed.

I highly recommend this book.

Joel Osteen is well-known for his inspirational and motivational approach to Christian personal growth. But unlike many traditional self-help guides that emphasize diet and exercise to improve our health, Osteen’s “15 Ways to Live Longer and Healthier” emphasizes the importance of mindset, attitude, and emotional well-being.

Focusing on our convictions, and reigning in our emotions during trying times makes life calmer, sweeter, and more pleasant. This positive approach and effective strategies give us a more fulfilling and healthier life.

This book provides inspiration and reassurance to those going through difficult times or those in need of a positive boost. If you know someone who needs a bit of encouragement, this book makes a wonderful gift.

In my morning prayer last month I prayed for God to show me healthy wisdom and a few days after my prayer I found out about The 15 ways to live longer and healthier. It is full of much wisdom. Hard to pick a favorite part for me but I will say I completely agree to have a healthy soul we have to deny the bitterness of doubt and past hurts. It is not easy to do because it means so much to do so. Another word for a gift is a present not a past. Also agree that God gave us freewill to make choices, He does not force us to do anything but offers and loves us, giving us the light, but we must walk the path. Blessed with the many faithful messages in Joel Osteen's new book. Grateful for it.

15 WAYS TO LIVE LONGER AND HEALTHIER by Joel Osteen was a clever book, but I thought the actual tips fell a bit flat. While Osteen presents some good and valid ideas, I felt that the concepts needed more detail, personality, and personal application. I also wish that the book would've emphasized health more through a holistic lens. I do feel that energy, a focused mind, and a calmer soul are approachable things to reach and grasp, but I also believe they are skills that require lifelong adjustments and growth.

I have been following Joel Osteen, Pastor of Lakewood Church, for many years now and I love his books as much as I love his sermons. This book focuses on the best ways to live longer and healthier lives by focusing on our attitudes, our thoughts, and our emotional well-being instead of being dragged down and living discouraged and depressed. If we are constantly living in a negative state of mind we are more prone to becoming sick by depressing our immune systems. Just a pleasure to read! I thank Netgalley and FaithWords for the opportunity to read and review this book.

In 15 Ways to Live Longer and Healthier Joel Osteen guides us through life-changing strategies to make us healthier emotionally and therefore physically. We can choose to be happy by following his guidelines. Anyone who routinely has negative or angry thoughts or actions or a “poor me” attitude will benefit from this book. I don’t think of myself in those categories, but I still found it beneficial.

I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. Although I would have liked more examples, this book really got me thinking on how I can improve myself and be a better person. This book completely altered my mindset and how I see the world. I felt inspired and more relaxed after I finished reading the book, and would like to read other books by this author.
