Ten Straight Road Games

The Cleveland Guardians start their 2024 season with ten straight games away from home, but have gotten off to a surprisingly strong start. They took three out of four from the Athletics, and two out of three from the Mariners to win both of their opening series. They now have the series lead in this matchup with the Twins, before they finally head home to take on their AL Central rival White Sox. In their last game, the Guardians got three hits from their leadoff man left fielder Steven Kwan in the 4-2 win.

Kwan has been on fire at the top of the lineup this season, he is hitting .385 and leads the team in hits with 15 and runs with 10. He has one home run on the season, and no one on the Guardians has two home runs on the year yet. Jose Ramirez was predicted to be the best offensive player on the team, The third baseman bats third in the lineup, has 10 hits and leads the team with seven RBIs. Ramirez also has one homer so far. Andres Gimenez is a second baseman batting second with nine hits, and Josh Naylor is a 26-year-old first baseman who has knocked in five runs from the cleanup spot.

Carlos Carrasco is a veteran on the mound. The 37-year-old out of Venezuela played for the Mets last season and finished with a 3-8 record. In his lone appearance this season, he lasted five innings but gave up six hits and three runs in a loss to the Athletics. He only had three strikeouts in his first start.

Twins Drop Three of Four

The Minnesota Twins have lost three of their last four games, and have been outscored 21-11 in the stretch. The four-game stretch covers three different opponents, as they lost their last game against the Royals, split a quick 2-game series against the Brewers, and dropped their first game against the Guardians. In their game against Cleveland, they struck out 15 times and only generated two runs. Second baseman Edouard Julien hit a home run in the 5th, but the solo shot was not enough to contribute to a win.

Their most productive hitter on the young season has been Alex Kirilloff. He has been batting second as the DH and leads the team with nine hits and four runs, while batting .409 at the plate. Edouard Julien is expected to be one of their top players, but he is off to a slow start with just three hits and a batting average of .150 from the leadoff spot. Shortstop Carlos Correa has been better; he bats fifth and is hitting .368 with three RBIs. The Twins only have three home runs over all eight games this season, and Julien is the only typical starter who has hit one so far.

Joe Ryan will get the start on the mound here; he went 11-10 last year for the Twins with an ERA of 4.51. He had a strong showing in his first start, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing three hits and just one earned run in the win over the Royals. He had five strikeouts and just one walk in the 5-1 win.

The Twins on the moneyline will be the play here. Carrasco did not look strong in his first outing for the Guardians, as the 37-year-old only had three strikeouts and gave up three earned runs in just five innings. The Twins offense will get back on track, led by the hot bat of Alex Kirilloff who is batting over .400 and has nine hits on the year. The Twins were also excited to see production from second baseman Edouard Julien. He hit a homer last game and will look to keep the positive momentum going in this one. Joe Ryan is the better pitcher in this matchup. He was strong in his first start only allowing one earned run with five strikeouts in a win against the Royals. The Twins lost the opener of this series but will get back on track here as they will not allow their AL Central rival to get too far ahead in the standings.

Take the Twins to win.

Prediction: Twins (-156)

The Twins will rely on strong pitching in this one, as their offense has not been near the top of the league in run production. Joe Ryan has just a 1.69 ERA this season. Yes, it is a very small sample size, but he is still pitching the ball well and will look to keep it up here. Minnesota's team ERA is 13th in the league at 3.63, and they have one of their better starters going here. Cleveland's pitching staff has been even better this season, as they rank 4th in ERA at just 2.44. These teams are both near the bottom of the league in home runs. The Twins are literally dead last with just three on the year, and the Guardians are not very far ahead with just five. This will be a low scoring game to start the afternoon.

Take the under.

Prediction: Under 7.5
